Living History
Fort Concho’s Living History program offers an immersive experience that transports visitors and volunteers back to the 1880s. This program provides a comprehensive glimpse into life on the American frontier. Our volunteers are dressed in period-appropriate military attire that reflects the uniforms worn by the U.S. Army during the Indian Wars.
Soldiers during this time period were part of a military effort to secure and expand the American frontier. Our Living History program offers demonstrations of their daily routines, military drills, and the use of period weapons, such as rifles and sabers (and sometimes artillery!).
