Spring Break at Fort Concho

Join us for spring break! With the expected increase in guest traffic and the recent lessening of some COVID-19 restrictions, Fort Concho will offer special site walking tours for Spring Break week, Monday-Sunday, March 15-21. Covering both an introduction to the site at the Barracks 1 Visitor Center and up to seven of the site’s display and exhibit buildings, the tours will take about 90 minutes. On Monday through Saturday, we will have two daily tours starting at 10:00 am and 1:30 pm; the single Sunday tour begins at 2:00 pm. There is no extra charge for this service, but donations are always welcome at the Barracks 1 Visitor Center, where all of our tours will start.

The tours will cover the exhibits, furnishings, period displays, and stories for the artillery/wagon displays In Barracks 2, Soldiers Barracks and Mess Hall 5, Headquarters, Hospital, Chapel, and the life of the commissioned officer in Officers’ Quarters 3. The Danner Telephone Museum at Officers’ Quarters 4, the Living History Stables displays and mules, and the fort’s Visitor Center and displays at Barracks 1 will remain open to all from 9-5 Monday-Saturday and 1-5  on Sunday on a self-guided basis.

Noted site manager Bob Bluthardt, “we have not offered regular walking tours since last spring due toCOVID regulations, but better current conditions plus the nature of the tours taking place outside in open spaces convinced our staff that this was a timely service to offer our guests.”
