Buffalo Soldier Heritage Day

Celebrates the history and heritage of the African-American Soldiers who served at Fort Concho and other forts across the United States. The Fort Concho Buffalo Soldier Living History Unit will have education programs and living history demonstrations.

Fort Concho Museum Day

Enjoy a fun-filled day at Fort Concho with special docent led tours, half- price admissions, crafts & activities for children, and living history presentations. The event will be from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m

Living History Ladies Symposium

Fort Concho will again host a Living History Training Workshop. The 14th Annual Living History Ladies Symposium will cover topics on Victorian leisure, clothing, crafts, and interpretation. There will be a wide variety of presentations from our area living historians and re-enactors. These talks will give participants an idea of what living historians do, how to get started in the field, and where they can participate.

West Texas Rehab Stribling Art Show at Fort Concho

The Stribling Art Extravaganza will showcase 175 Concho Valley Artists and Artisans. The show and sale is free and open to the public. Since its beginning, Stribling Art Extravaganza has raised over $800,000 for WTRC and continues to serve as a great outlet to feature local talent. Featuring pieces of original art from a variety of mediums including oil, watercolor, pottery, mixed media, pastels, sculpture, drawing, fiber, glass, wood, clay and photographs, this show will have something for everyone. Every piece will be for sale and supporting this show not only benefits the Rehab Center, but supports the local artists.

Fort Concho Speakers Series

Enjoy a lunchtime talk by area speakers covering different topics of our community heritage. The program is held in the Fort Concho Commissary Building, located at Burgess Street near Henry O. Flipper Street. Take Flipper Street from South Oakes Street, just a half mile south of downtown San Angelo. Each day’s session begins shortly after noon. Free Admission

U.S. Cavalry Association Regional Competition

Fort Concho will host a Regional Cavalry Competition under the rules and guidelines of the United States Cavalry Association (USCA). Events will include classroom instruction, field instruction, combat horsemanship, and competition in jumping, pistol, and saber. The course and regulations will be the same as those in effect for the USCA annual event held at Fort Reno, OK. The event will be open to the public for the competition days, and some of the evening dinners will also be open to guests at a small charge for the meal.

Frontier Day

Celebrates the region’s agricultural and ranching heritage with special displays, exhibits, living history, 1800s Base Ball, booths for vendors and children’s activities. There is no charge for this half-day event and all fort tour buildings will be open to visitors.

Lions Club Pancake Breakfast is held in conjunction with Frontier Day. Tickets for the breakfast are $5.00

Armed Forces Day

Join us for a tribute to our nation’s armed forces with displays and programs. There is no charge to watch the programs; regular admission fees will be in effect to tour the fort’s buildings.

Memorial Day

Join us on the eastern end of the Fort Concho Parade Ground near the Headquarters Building for a program to honor the men and women who have given their lives to defend our nation. The program is co-sponsored by Fort Concho and the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The event is free to the public. After the event, the fort will be open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm for the rest of the holiday. (Regular Admission Charges)

Fun at the Fort – Kids’ Summer Programs

Bring your kids to Fort Concho this summer to experience the 19th Century. Tickets for classes must be purchased in advance and space is limited for each program.

American Plains Artist Show

Fort Concho will host the American Plains Artist (APA) Show featuring talented artists who’s works express of the heritage and history of the Plains. Themes include cowboys, cattle, western terrain Native Americans, soldiers, settlers, pioneers, and many more. All artwork is for sale, and proceeds benefit the artist and Fort Concho.

Independence Day at Fort Concho

Following an old army tradition, Fort Concho will fire artillery salutes on our nation’s birthday on the hour from 10:00-3:00. The artillery salute will take place on the fort’s Parade Ground near the Visitor Center at Barracks 1. There is no charge for the demonstrations, but regular site admissions will be in effect.

National Cowboy Day at Fort Concho

Fort Concho will mark National Cowboy Day with entertainment and programs highlighting the American cowboy.

Museum Day Live!

Museum Day Live! is an annual celebration hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Fort Concho National Historic Landmark, along with hundreds of museums nation wide will mark Museum Day Live! with free admission.

Concho Valley Archeology Fair

Come spend a free day at Fort Concho as dozens of booths, exhibits, and demonstrations bring the region’s past to life. Topics include Native American life and culture, fort life, settlers, early life, and travel. A variety of hands-on activities and archeology programs will be available for children. This annual event is held from 10:00-3:00 in various fort buildings.

Murder at Fort Concho

Enjoy an evening of mystery at the fort’s annual Murder at Fort Concho program. This live game of Clue brings to life 19th century characters and gives participants the opportunity to play detective for a night.

Night Tours of Fort Concho

Experience history in a new light as Fort Concho offers special night tours of the site. These tours will show the fort and some interiors in the evening darkness. Guides will share a few stories about the post and note some of the soldiers and civilians who have died at Fort Concho. .

Christmas at Old Fort Concho

Enjoy 3 days Christmas festivities on the historic fort grounds as the site’s 40 acres and 24 buildings are filled with shopping, entertainment, food, living history, children’s workshops, displays and much more. The event is held the first full weekend in December.
