School of the Piece: Artillery Safety Training Course

Fort Concho and the Loyal Train Chapter of the United States Field Artillery Association (USFAA) will be hosting the School of the Piece Safety Training Course February 7-9.
Cost for the training will be $50.00 for early-registration, or $55.00 at the door.
Participants are asked to bring their wool jackets to the training. Loaner jackets are available upon request (limited quantities).
Lodging at Fort Concho is also available upon. Please let us know if you will be staying at the site for the training when you register.

February 7th— 9:00 am Check-In/Registration opens at the Living History Stables Classroom (234 Henry O Flipper). TBA Evening Social/Supper.
February 8th—8:00 am Breakfast; 9:00 am Classroom Instruction; 12:00 pm Lunch; 1:00 pm- 5:00 pm Classroom instruction; 6:00 pm Dinner (chicken fried steak with trimmings) provided by the Loyal Train Chapter.
February 9th—8:00 am Breakfast; 9:00 am Field Instruction; 12:00 pm Lunch/Completion certificates awarded.

Baseball Heritage Symposium
Feb 29 @ 8:30 am – 2:30 pm

Sponsored by the local chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research, Fort Concho is hosting a Baseball Heritage Symposium, on Saturday, February 29, in the Living History Stables Classroom.
The program includes several presentations with topics ranging from regional baseball history to the 1919 Chicago Back Box scandal. There will also be a minor league baseball quiz! If weather permits, the fort’s vintage baseball team will play a baseball game (1860s rules) on nearby the Parade Field.
The program is free to all, and will provide morning refreshments and coffee, as well as pizza for lunch.

Campfire Story Night
Mar 12 @ 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join us under the Texas night sky for an evening of storytelling and s’mores. Bring a blanket and/or chair, and listen to our storytellers recount untold tales about Fort Concho and the Texas frontier.

The event is free to all and will be held in the Courtyard (between Barracks 5/6). S’more will be provided.

Independence Day at Fort Concho
Jul 4 @ 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Following an old army tradition, Fort Concho will fire artillery salutes in celebration of our nation’s birthday. The artillery salutes will take place on the hour near the Visitor Center at Barracks 1. There is no charge for the demonstrations; regular site admission will be in effect.

Murder at Fort Concho
Oct 24 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pm

Join us Saturday, October 24 and help us solve this mystery. Modeled after the board game “Clue”, Murder at Fort Concho gives you the opportunity to play detective for a night. Listen to the suspect’s alibis, search for clues, and help Miss Terri Salva figure out who killed Captain C.A.Daver!

To better meet current COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, tickets will be sold for specific start times. The first available time slot will be at 7:00 pm with additional start times scheduled every 15 minutes until 9:00 pm. All guest will have until 10:30 pm to solve the mystery.

Guests can purchase tickets in the Visitor Center at Barracks 1, or by calling (325) 481-2646, starting Monday, October 12. Since capacity for each time slot is limited, tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets are $10 for the general public, and $8 for Fort Concho Members.

Masks must be worn and social distancing will be required both on the grounds and within any building. The program will begin in the Visitor Center at Barracks 1. Parking will be available across Oakes street.

Christmas at the Stables
Dec 13 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Join us at the Fort Concho Stables for a Christmas concert! Under the direction of Professor Constance Kelley of Angelo State University, the San Angelo Community Band will perform an hour-long program filled with Christmas favorites. Repertoire includes a mix of traditional and modern music like “Sleigh Ride,” “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” and “All I want for Christmas Is You.”
In order to meet to current City guidelines and to practice social distancing, the event has a limited capacity of 100 guests. Seating will be offered on a first- come, first-served basis. Masks will be required.
