The Life and Times of Texas Icon, Charles Goodnight

Masterfully created by acclaimed western/wildlife artist, Lee Cable, “The Life and Times of Texas Icon, Charles Goodnight,” will be on display at Fort Concho June 17–September 7, 2020.
This unique fine art exhibition depicts scenes from the life of Charles Goodnight through 13 original oil paintings. The exhibition also features working sketches for each painting, which invite viewers into Cable’s artistic process, and the intricacies of painting highly detailed, aesthetically pleasing works of art.

“The Life and Times of Texas Icon, Charles Goodnight,” is sponsored by the Susan Kathleen Black Foundation, Inc., and will be displayed in the Visitor Center at Barracks 1 at no charge to the public.

American Plains Artist Show 2020

Fort Concho and the American Plains Artist Association are joining forces to host the 2020 American Plains Artist Show. Stop by the site’s Quartermaster building to view over one-hundred works of art covering a wide range of classic western themes!

The show, which features artist from 18 states, is free to all. Artwork in the show is for sale, with the proceeds benefiting the artists, the American Plains Artists organization and Fort Concho.
Guests can vote for their favorite piece, with the top choice announced after the show closes August 2.

Independence Day at Fort Concho

Following an old army tradition, Fort Concho will fire artillery salutes in celebration of our nation’s birthday. The artillery salutes will take place on the hour near the Visitor Center at Barracks 1. There is no charge for the demonstrations; regular site admission will be in effect.
