Curated Conversation: The Douglas McChristian Collection

Join the Curator of History, Cory Robinson for an evening talk on the newly acquired Douglas McChristian Collection. The talk will be held in the exhibit space in the Visitor Canter at Barracks 1 and will cover summer objects and artifacts.

Fort Concho After Dark

You may have heard the tale behind the tragic death of Edith Grierson, but do you know the story of Annetta Bishop, the Merriam family, or Convict Thomas Duncan?
Join us Thursday, October 10 for a spine-tingling night tour of Fort Concho. Visit several of the fort’s buildings and listen to our guides recount the stories of people who lived and died at the site.
Tickets for the walking tour be available in early October, space is limited.
$8.00- General Public, $6.00 for Fort Concho Members.

Join us for the 4rd annual Murder at Fort Concho event. Modeled after the board game Clue, Murder at Fort Concho give participants the opportunity to play detective for a night. Listen to the alibis, search for clues, and help Miss Terri Salva solve the whodunit.

The event will run from 7:00-10:30 pm, but tickets will not be sold after 9:00 p.m. Tickets will be available in the Visitor Center at Barracks 1 in early October. For more information about the event call (325) 657-4444.

School of the Piece: Artillery Safety Training Course

Fort Concho and the Loyal Train Chapter of the United States Field Artillery Association (USFAA) will be hosting the School of the Piece Safety Training Course February 7-9.
Cost for the training will be $50.00 for early-registration, or $55.00 at the door.
Participants are asked to bring their wool jackets to the training. Loaner jackets are available upon request (limited quantities).
Lodging at Fort Concho is also available upon. Please let us know if you will be staying at the site for the training when you register.

Schedule:
February 7th— 9:00 am Check-In/Registration opens at the Living History Stables Classroom (234 Henry O Flipper). TBA Evening Social/Supper.
February 8th—8:00 am Breakfast; 9:00 am Classroom Instruction; 12:00 pm Lunch; 1:00 pm- 5:00 pm Classroom instruction; 6:00 pm Dinner (chicken fried steak with trimmings) provided by the Loyal Train Chapter.
February 9th—8:00 am Breakfast; 9:00 am Field Instruction; 12:00 pm Lunch/Completion certificates awarded.

Buffalo Soldier Heritage Day

In recognition of Black History Month, the local chapter of the NAACP and Fort Concho will host the annual Buffalo Soldier Heritage Day celebration on Sunday, February 23, in the Commissary building. The program will include a presentation by Fort Concho Curator of History, Cory Robinson, featuring original artifacts and uniforms used by Buffalo Soldiers in the late 1800s.

The event is free to all. Light refreshments will be served.
