Regional Cavalry Competition

For the 4th year in a row, Fort Concho will host a Regional Cavalry Competition under the rules and guidelines of the United States Cavalry Association (USCA). The competition will include events in military horsemanship, combat horsemanship as well as jumping, pistol, and saber.

The course and regulations will be the same as those in effect for the USCA annual event held at Fort Reno, OK.

Celebrate the region’s agricultural and ranching heritage with special displays, exhibits, living history, Lions Club Pancake Breakfast, live music, booths for vendors and children’s activities.  There is no charge for this half-day event beyond the fee for the pancake breakfast ($6.00).

Fun at the Fort- Southwest Indians
Jun 26 @ 9:30 am – 12:00 pm

Come listen to tales and legends of the Southwest Indians. Visit a teepee, sample Indian foods and create your own crafts to take home.

This session is designed for children ages 6-12. Space is limited, so registration is required. $15- general public, $12- Fort Concho Members. Snacks will be provided.

American Plains Artist Special Show- Opening Night
Jun 27 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Join us Thursday, June 27 for the opening of the American Plains Artist Special Show. Four artist of the American Plains Artist Association have been selected to showcase their art work at Fort Concho June 28 through August 4.

Art Show will be open 10-4 Tuesday- Saturday; 1:30-4:30 Sunday; Closed Monday.

American Plains Artist Special Show

Fun at the Fort- Join the Infantry
Jul 10 @ 9:30 am – 12:00 pm

Enlist and be a soldier for a day! Learn to march and drill, learn about a soldier’s life in the 1800s and take home a forge cap as a souvenir of your trip to the past.

This session is designed for children ages 6-12. Space is limited, so registration is required. $15- general public, $12- Fort Concho Members. Snacks will be provided.

Curated Conversation: The Douglas McChristian Collection

Join the Curator of History, Cory Robinson for an evening talk on the newly acquired Douglas McChristian Collection. The talk will be held in the exhibit space in the Visitor Canter at Barracks 1 and will cover summer objects and artifacts.

Fun at the Fort- Come in My Kitchen

Step into the kitchen of Officers’ Quarters 6 and help us make some tasty treats from long ago. There will be lots of hands on fun with yummy results to enjoy! Taught by Fort Concho staff and volunteers.
